Courtney Bowie finalist in Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30 in Wellness Advocate category

Courtney Bowie, founder and chief executive officer of Her Lawyer Pty Ltd, has been named as a finalist in the Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30 in the Wellness Advocate category.
Her work, breaking the silence around mental health issues in the legal profession, led to her nomination and shortlisting.
The shortlisting follows off the back of winning the Emerging Leader category at the Telstra Business Women’s Awards 2020 in New South Wales this month.
Bowie has been a media spokesperson for mental health and women in the legal profession after her dreams of working in a major city law firm were dashed when she was diagnosed with anxiety and chronic migraines just six months into her graduate role.
This experience led her to her to passionately become the voice of those suffering in silence in the profession as she talked publicly about her experiences.
Lawyers Weekly’s 30 Under 30 is Australia’s largest gathering of lawyers aged 30 and under in Australia. The awards program provides a platform for the rising stars working in the legal industry in Australia to showcase their hard work and celebrate the top-performing professionals of the year.
The eighth annual 30 Under 30, run in partnership with principal partner Taylor Root, offers finalists and winners a range of experiences and opportunities that extends far beyond their winning moment.
“This year has by far been the most hotly contested 30 Under 30 to date, with the finalists acting on some of the largest and most noteworthy deals the market has seen over the past 12 months,” said Lawyers Weekly editor Emma Ryan.
“With such tough competition among them, I’d like to say a massive congratulations to all of those who have made the cut.
“The work you do is integral to the business of law and we look forward to celebrating your achievements on the night!”
Courtney Bowie at Her Lawyer said that she was humbled to be recognised and proud to be named as a finalist in the 30 Under 30 list.
“Mental health issues in most legal firms are still not openly talked about. The feeling many employees have is that if they speak up there will be repercussions.”
“After spending my life working towards the ultimate goal of working in a legal firm it was highly distressing for me that this dream was not meant to be.
“I realised many others were dealing with mental health issues but were not able to speak up.
“I had nothing to lose and wanted to raise the awareness of the subject so that young lawyers wouldn’t have to go through what I had.
“My law firm, Her Lawyer, is breaking the mold in so many ways in which I am very proud. For both our employees and our clients, we’re breaking down barriers, treating people with respect and offering wellness advice and a safe space to discuss concerns at every step.
“For us it’s a no-brainer. Happy and well staff and clients means a thriving workplace set for growth.”
The winners of the awards will be announced at the first-ever live broadcast awards on Friday, 29 May. With MC Vince Sorrenti, this live talk-show-style event will include live interviews with finalists and winners direct from their homes, and the Lawyers Weekly app will keep professionals connected with peers, industry leaders, colleagues and friends.
Lawyers Weekly will continue to recognise the achievements of talented lawyers in 2020 — despite not being able to gather physically. To find out more or register, visit their website here.
