My 7 year old son still wets the bed. Finally I’ve found a solution

  • Written by MISS.com.au

Like most Mums, Bridie Allen went through the challenges of toilet training when her son was a toddler, but at four years old, Rayne regressed.

“He was toilet trained, but he began to wet himself overnight and sometimes during the day again. He is now 7 years old and still struggles with this issue,” Ms Allen said.

“Rayne has recently been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Paediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Steptococcal Infections (PANDAS) which is likely one of the causes behind the bedwetting.”

When it came to managing the condition, Bridie and Rayne found there were limited options.

The family had been buying nappies every fortnight, but as the cost of living skyrocketed, it was becoming expensive, and Bridie started searching for a cost-effective and environmentally friendly option.

That’s when she came across Saf Organics Waterproof Underwear.

Saf Organics Waterproof Underwear are one of the few Australian products that offer toilet training solutions for older children and are designed for full bladder leaks.

Saf Organics Founder Tegiye Mimi-Ozalp said the demand was unprecedented.

“We started with just our toddler daytime toilet training underwear, and they flew out the door. Then we had families ask us if we could make these undies in larger sizes for older children who still wet the bed,” Ms Mimi-Ozalp said.

“So I went back to our supplier and asked if we could go bigger. We came up with a seven layer option to hold up to 680mL of liquid overnight.”

The underwear is made of bamboo, microfibre to absorb any accidents, and a waterproof PUL layer on the outside.

The sizes suit children from 9kg to 35kg with no fiddly buttons or inserts.

“There are children who have disabilities and are so embarrassed to be wearing nappies. It is wonderful to provide a solution that helps children feel like they can be wearing ‘normal’ undies,” Ms Mimi-Ozalp said.

“We deliberately designed our undies to be neutral colours with no bright patterns so they don’t show under light clothes and don’t look like ‘kiddie’ nappies. The materials used mean children can still feel when they are wet, but it saves all the washing.”

Saf Organics Waterproof Undies are NDIS approved, meaning children with an NDIS account may be eligible for a full refund.

Bridie says they’ve been a gamechanger for her and Rayne.

“These undies are exactly what we need. Rayne feels more comfortable. He gets really embarrassed about the fact he still has nappies at bedtime and when his PANDAS flares up, he sometimes has accidents during the day. These undies take the pressure off,” she said.
