Fashion

Recently, the fashion industry has been dominated by countless microtrends, known to come quickly and disappear even faster, leaving clothes, accessories and jewellery that was worn only once bound for storage.

However, esteemed jewellery house Larsen Jewellery points towards a style shift within the jewellery sphere. Built on the foundations of couture, Larsen recently launched a ready-to-wear collection to appeal to eco-conscious consumers, looking for high-quality yet affordable pieces, which were available right away, unlike their custom pieces.

Sydney jeweller and operations manager Kate Reid is the brains behind the collection and covers the inspiration and trends we will see more in the sector.

“Fashion is the second biggest polluting industry in the world, so it’s necessary that consumers make considered decisions when buying into trends,” explains Kate.

“That being said, there are a few clear jewellery trends we can see Aussies are moving towards that are definitely worth investing in. Think fine chains, pearls, nature-inspired pieces and sky blues.”

Delicate, dainty chains and fixtures

“Though showy, maximalist pieces had their moment in the last two years, delicate jewellery is having a renaissance as its enduring quality is second to none,” explains Kate. “Adding a dainty piece of jewellery to any outfit makes you immediately appear more put together.”

Understated, refined and tasteful; delicate jewellery essentially goes with everything. Their ‘just right’ amount of sparkle means they can be worn every day.

Coloured gemstones, notably sky blue

“Colourful gemstones are in high demand at the moment, and we are finding customers are selecting gemstones based on their birthstones as a way to make a piece more personal and special,” explains Kate.

“Pale, sky blues were a standout colour of 2022 New York and Paris fashion weeks and they are projected to trend massively this year.

We can already see this taking shape with our most popular coloured gemstone being the aquamarines and sea drops.”

Pearls, a girl’s best friend

As Jackie Kennedy said “pearls are always appropriate,” a sentiment reflected in current fashion trends. Though pearls are considered on-trend now, they will always be a fashion classic, as they are synonymous with elegance and class with fashion icons like Audrey Hepburn.

“As summer finishes and we move into colder months, pearls are an essential winter accessory. Paired with an all-black outfit, pearls exude sophistication and refinement,” explains Kate.

“It’s not surprising that our most popular interchangeable drop choices have been the Akoya and Riku pearls. And for an eco-conscious consumer, pearls are a great choice as they are low impact and organic.”

Nature and organic inspired pieces

As we move to a more conscious society there has been a desire in fashion to draw inspiration from and feel connected to the natural world. Jewellery that has natural forms, earthy tones and reflects imagery from nature has become increasingly popular and sought after.

“Our most popular ready to wear pieces have been our signature leaf-inspired Juni Diamond designs, available in stud earrings or as a necklace,” explains Kate.

“The aspiration to connect with nature and the natural world will only grow more in an increasingly digital society, so these styles will stick around for good. When designing the new RTW collection I drew inspiration from nature inspired motifs, combining it with the clean lines and refined finishes of classic fine jewellery. ”
