Home & Garden

When you’ve made the effort to adopt the Hamptons style in your home you can’t stop at the cushions. It’s imperative they are arranged to enhance the effect you’ve created.

Fortunately, there are a few simple tips you can follow to style your cushions perfectly.

However, before you start playing with your cushions, take a moment to review your sofa choice. Hampton's style is minimalistic, natural, and tends to focus on soft colours. There are plenty of crisp whites accompanied by beige, grey, or perhaps a navy blue.

In other words, you may need to look at the latest Hampton-style 3 seater sofas before you worry about your cushions.

Don’t forget, a three seater sofa doesn’t have to have three seat cushions. It can be one or two, as long as the sofa is two meters wide, or perhaps a little more. It will spaciously seat three people.

How Many Cushions Do You Need?

This should be the first question you ask. After all, you can’t arrange them properly unless you know how many cushions you are arranging.

There isn’t a definitive answer to this question. Hampton’s style would generally dictate between five and seven cushions. However, the style is personal and you’ll have to decide what works best for your style and comfort.

Choosing The Material

Once you know how many cushions you need you can decide what material should be used to make them.

If you want your sofa to scream luxury then feather-filled cushions offer the perfect solution. However, if you prefer your cushions to stand up, you may want to look at the foam-filled options.

The key to getting Hampton’s cushion style correct is to mix the cushions. For example, if you want five cushions make three father-filled and two foam-filled. You’ll create a stylish image and invite comfort at the same time.

At the same time, mix your materials. Velvet covers, or perhaps natural woven, materials are in keeping with the Hamptons style. Have some cushions made out of each. It will enhance the aesthetic and keep the natural feel.

Getting The Colour Right

Hampton style is minimalistic. A white sofa is a good choice, allowing you to spice things up with your cushions. This is where you can add a splash of blue.

However; don’t make all the cushions the same colour. Instead, opt for two or three blue ones and the rest beige or grey. You can even opt for a couple of white cushions if you like.

Using two colours makes the sofa a feature. It captures your attention and that’s definitely in keeping with the Hamptons style.

Summing Up

Once you’ve picked your preferred number and choice of cushions, arranging them is simple. The classic option is to alternate the colours. However, you can have four of one colour, two on each side, framing a central cushion.

Alternatively, group the cushions together on one side and leave the other side of the sofa empty. It’s playful and eye-catching.

Getting the colours and materials right allows you to play with the positioning, ensuring you get something that you feel comfortable with.
